Our Projects
Greenfields Hydrogeological Baseline Study for Proposed Tailings
Management Facility, Lac des Iles Mine, Thunder Bay, Ontario
Geocentric’s Hydrogeologist was retained to prepare a Hydrogeological Investigation, Groundwater Monitoring Plan complaint with O.Reg. 35/24, completion of predictive modeling, preparation of a conceptual site models, groundwater quality and surface water quality evaluations and development of a 3-D numerical model to evaluate the hydrogeological conditions for a new Tailing Management Facility at Lac des Iles Mine. The work has included: Hydrogeological baseline assessment and yearly site monitoring, Preparation of groundwater monitoring program, Groundwater and surface water quality evaluations, 3D Numerical Groundwater modelling with Particle Tracking, TSF – 3D Fate and transport modelling and natural attenuation of metals, Regulatory and permitting support.
3D Conceptual Site Modelling- CSM 3D Vis™
Interpretation and Evaluation of PFAS Plume Fate and Transport
Geocentric was retained to develop rigorous conceptual site models that integrate geology, hydrogeology, and contaminant PFAS data into a coherent, defensible site narrative, to clearly communicate complex subsurface conditions to support site management plans, remediation action plans, and regulatory submissions. The work included: Interpretation of PFAS soil and groundwater chemistry in 3D, Evaluation of concentration trend analysis, Detailed geological interpretation and hydrogeological architecture, Interpretation and Development of 3D conceptual models of soil and groundwater plumes.
Baseline Hydrogeological Characterization, 3D Numerical Groundwater Modelling and Permitting
Northern Ontario Mine Site
Geocentric was retained to lead detailed Hydrogeological Mine Site Evaluations from Baseline Evaluations, 3D numerical modelling to permitting and regulatory submissions. The work included the following: Detailed Site 3D Conceptual Site Models, Hydrogeological Baseline Assessments with seasonal site monitoring, Downhole Packer Testing to 400 mbg, Geological and Structural Interpretations, Seismic and Downhole Geophysics to investigate overburden and fracture rock mechanics, 3D Numerical groundwater modelling-Pit Seepage Modelling and Static Watertable evaluations-mine development and mine closure, PTTW Category 3 Permitting Support, Tailings Management Facilities Fate and Transport modelling and natural attenuation of metals, Geochemical modelling of pit flood waters and discharges for mine closure reporting, Lead authors for PEA and PFS reports.
Remedial Plan- Passive Treatment System
Colomac Mine, CIRNAC, Yellowknife
Geocentric developed a novel rehabilitation plan/design which includes capping coupled with the construction of natural attenuation wetlands and passive treatment systems. The work involved shoreline engineering, numerical modeling to determine diffusion through caps and subaqueous construction techniques and a detailed review of the hydrogeological, surface water and fate and transport of the free phase hydrocarbon in a complex fractured rock setting with mobile free phase hydrocarbons. Received an “Award of Recognition” from the Federal Government.
DNAPL Impacts- Litigation Support
CERCLA/SUPERFUND Site, Kentucky, USA
Geocentric supported the litigation team in the evaluation and determination of possible source areas, and possible entry points into the subsurface, remedial s trategies, DNAPL recovery and numerical modelling. Detailed NAPL, soil and groundwater investigations are ongoing to support a weight of evidence approach.
Site Remediation Iqaluit Airport Landfill
PSPC-Transport Canada, Iqaluit, NU
Geocentric help oversee and direct a $6M remedial project involving detailed site investigations, Remedial Options and Risk Assessment, Geotechnical Evaluation, Geophysical Surveys, Site Specific Risk Assessment, Remedial Action Planning, Water Board Permitting, Liability Estimation and Tender Specification Preparation. Geocentric staff supported the remedial Implementation, capping of the landfill and remedial soil excavations. A significant component of the work was the determining the design and stability of a waste landfill and discharge of PCBs, PAHs and metals into permafrost/talik environment adjacent to the sensitive Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park.
