Tony Brown

Tony Brown is a Civil Environmental Engineer with more than 20 years of professional experience across a variety of disciplines, with a focus on the management of northern contaminated sites and mine remediation. The majority of Tony’s efforts are focused on contaminated site program management, environmental impact assessments, site characterization studies, development of environmental management plans, closure planning, regulatory affairs and community engagement. His core assets include: strategic visioning, risk management, technical innovation, communication, complex project management and team leadership. Tony has worked extensively across Canada on numerous high-profile and controversial contaminated site projects. He has also worked on a number of international assignments in Bolivia, Venezuela, Argentina, Pakistan, Kenya and Sudan. For the past 15 years, Tony has served as expert support to multiple government agencies on the management of contaminated sites. In particular, he has been a strategic advisor to the Canadian Federal Government on technical and project management challenges associated with more than $3B of contaminated site liabilities. For example, Tony was seconded to oversee a federal contaminated sites program in the NWT. This included providing technical and project management guidance to a staff of 18 managing a portfolio of more than 300 contaminated sites dispersed across a broad geographic area. In addition, Tony currently serves as one of six Directors on the Oversight Board for the remediation of the former Giant Mine, which is arguably one of Canada’s most contaminated sites. He also provides strategic technical and project management support on a wide array of abandoned and new mining developments across Northern Canada. Tony has also worked with numerous Indigenous communities on a wide range of resource management projects and has a detailed understanding of northern environmental issues.
